He was able to find a large parcel of property in Oregon and it was a perfect place to make his vision a reality. We rescue and rehabilitate animals that have been abused or discarded and provide them with a safe home. Many of the animals have been abandoned on properties or have been in shelters for months. Each year, we take in dozens of new dogs, cats and other large animals and livestock. We do keep some of the animals on the property to live out their lives, but we adopt out as many as we can that would do great in a loving home.

As a sanctuary, many of the dogs we rescue will live out their lives with Lee and the pack. But we do make available the highly adoptable dogs that would thrive with kids and a family, or if it is determined that the pup would do better in a different environment; for example, as the only pet in the home. Visit shelters and scour rescue teams' websites and social media accounts for at least a month or, better, 90 days, and Asher almost guarantees a prospective owner will find an animal in the breed they are looking for.

Rather than a warehouse, Asher Houses are homes on expansive estates with fenced-in ranges where animals are allowed freedom of movement. The very day he lost Lilly, Asher rescued another St. Bernard, a 2-month-old puppy named Ranger. They are "amazing" and largely "perfectly healthy, housebroken and trained" animals that were quite expensive when first sold, he said, but for a multitude of reasons, were given up. "People think if they are going to go to a shelter they're only going to see the dogs you see on TV that are psychologically and physically damaged and too much to handle."

His method, he said, is to be silent and spend "actual quality time" with the animal by observing them, seeing what triggers them, what they love, what they avoid and what they seek out. In the videos, Asher conveys the duality of emotions, alternating feelings of joy and sadness. But the common denominator in his stories of hope and resilience is that a rescued and adopted animal is capable of immeasurable love and loyalty if simply given a chance by prospective owners. We are here to help people have better days and get animals adopted. In other words, it’s not that Bush didn’t break the speed limit, it’s that the speed limit has changed. And indeed, judging by today’s high salaries for top college football players, Bush was actually severely underpaid for his efforts.

Asher conveys his messages of good will toward abandoned animals, particularly dogs, on various channels, including, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. The Asher House is a registered non-profit sanctuary in Estacada, Oregon. We rescue animals that have been discarded or unwanted, providing them with a life of comfort, love and adventure. On Facebook and on Instagram, our social media accounts are verified with a blue checkmark. No other accounts belong to Lee or to our organization, and every other one is a fake. Please be careful not to communicate with ANY other accounts as they will ultimately try to get money from you.

"I would love nothing more, nothing more, than to open up a sanctuary there tomorrow." The worst of the darkness, he said, is the next separation — when an animal he's come to love passes away. Also not always shown, is the "long road to recovery" for the more afflicted animals, Asher said, adding solemnly that "they don't always make it." "Nothing will make you feel better than by taking away someone's pain. Nothing." Nerito was rescued from an abusive situation with spinal injuries.

There are no fan pages or manager pages, and he will never message anyone on social media, WhatsApp or Google hangouts. Additional fees may apply, such as but not limited to package delivery, trash, water, amenities, etc. Actual product and specifications may vary in dimension or detail. Each animal has a unique set of needs that we pay for through donations and our merchandise sales.

Nonetheless, at the time, the punishment was real, and Bush’s involvement in it was real bad, and for everyone to ignore that is to disrespect all the lives that were forever changed by his actions. All3Media International is handling international rights to the series and secured multiple pre-sales, including with WBD for ID and Max. In addition, PSBs including DR Denmark, YLE Finland, NRK Norway, SVT Sweden and VRT Belgium will premier in their territories – with RTL Netherlands and Nine Network Australia having rights in their countries.

Besides the partnership, Asher said he is "extremely grateful" for the kinship with the community of people in animal rescuing, fostering and sheltering. Most often, Asher said, a pet is given up by an owner due to some unforeseen or unavoidable life circumstance. That realization is even more painful — the separation of a family from a pet they have loved.

One of those he has featured is Matilda, a pit bull with a neurological disorder that makes her wobble as she walks. Despite the condition, which has markedly improved, Matilda has found acceptance at Asher's sanctuary and is another example that imperfection is no obstacle to love or happiness. One of them was a caramel-colored pit bull, Stella, whom Asher adopted the very day she was to be euthanized. The realization generated a heightened level of empathy for animals and humans alike suffering from feelings of degradation, he recalled. And it sparked in him a sense of purpose and life focus. Each type has its own appeal, with old houses showcasing character and architectural details, and modern houses prioritizing efficiency and functionality. It often involves cost-effective construction techniques and the use of affordable, local materials. The design’s simplicity can lead to reduced labor costs and shorter building timelines, making it a financially viable option. The Bahay Kubo encapsulates the essence of the Philippine islands as a quintessential emblem of its rich heritage. Today’s architects continue to reimagine this elemental symbol through the lens of modern bahay kubo design.

Traditional Filipino Charm: Exploring Bahay Kubo Design

Different bungalow types like Craftsman or Tudor have unique design elements, setting them apart from other home styles. As we explore the distinctions between these two architectural styles, we will uncover the unique features that make them stand out and appeal to different demographics. Solid hardwood is another strong choice, offering a natural resistance to scratches. In addition to its resilience, laminate flooring comes in a variety of styles and price ranges, allowing for customization to suit different preferences and budgets. Maintenance is easy, requiring only simple sweep and mop routines to keep the floor looking its best. However, it's important to avoid excessive water exposure during cleaning to preserve the integrity of the flooring.

Nothing else can better symbolize rich Filipino history than the humble bahay kubo or nipa hut, which has evidently transcended, grown, and evolved throughout the years. Today, design concepts of modern structures have adopted the unique elements the bahay kubo constitutes. While the traditional design preserves its cultural charm, modern construction techniques allow for integrating electricity, plumbing, and modern appliances. The generous vertical space adds a sense of openness and enhances natural ventilation, promoting a comfortable and cool interior. Large windows in Bahay Kubo are strategically designed to maximize natural light and air circulation. They create a well ventilated and bright interior positioned to take advantage of prevailing winds.

Section 6: Preserving Filipino Heritage

Architects craft dialogues between the past and the present, incorporating the essence of indigenous homes into newer structures. The Bahay Kubo is one of the most illustrative and recognized icons of the Philippines. The name of the primitive Nipa hut is actually based on the Spanish phrase Cubo, meaning cube, probably because of its rectangular appearance and Bahay is the Filipino word for house. The hours close early and some dishes may be to exotic or to salty for some palettes.

In this blog post, we will take a look at this modern Bahay Kubo design, as well as the native furniture pieces that are often used in this type of home. In conclusion, Bahay Kubo design is a remarkable testament to the ingenuity, cultural richness, and eco-consciousness of the Filipino people. From its humble origins to its enduring charm, Bahay Kubo remains an integral part of Filipino identity, symbolizing community, simplicity, and harmony with nature. As we explore Bahay Kubo’s diverse applications in contemporary architecture, sustainable tourism, and cross-cultural influence, we gain a deeper appreciation for its timeless allure.

For those looking for a flooring option that's both durable and easy to clean, laminate flooring stands out as a cost-effective and reliable choice that can enhance the aesthetic appeal of any space. The theory that our homes reflect our societal progression stands true, shaping our living spaces for generations to come. In contrast, traditional mansions prioritize timeless charm, classic architectural details, and a sense of heritage.

Both architectural styles excel in offering distinctive layout designs that balance space and coziness effectively. Exploring the interior features of ranch houses and bungalows reveals distinct design elements that cater to varying preferences for space and functionality. Ranch houses often boast open-concept layouts that create a seamless flow between living areas, maximizing open space and natural light. These homes typically offer high ceilings, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and airiness.

Modern homes boast advanced features like smart home systems, energy-efficient appliances, and integrated security systems, providing convenience and peace of mind. The workstation is also superb, with a bamboo-inspired table matched with a charming low-backed chair. This is set inside a small bedroom that has huge glass windows looking out to the lush garden outside the house. Instead of nipa, a modern flat roof of galvanized iron sheets protects the house from the sun and rain. Meanwhile, the interiors have a mix of native and contemporary furniture, perfectly complementing this house’s overall theme. The store’s focal point is a large, rectangular marble sink where customers can test products.

The windows are large to help give light and often are held open with a long bamboo rod, to allow for airflow. It is not the usual house you see where the living room or guest area is inside the house. The architect behind the design shares that they're also into tiny house living, and they created it in the hopes of building it for themself. "I'm still in the works of studying which materials would best fit it in actual contruction, what you see in the pictures are just my architectural renderings," they write.

Engineered wood is constructed with a top layer of real wood veneer over plywood, enhancing its stability in humid environments compared to solid hardwood. While engineered wood can be sanded and refinished to a certain extent, it falls short of the refinishing capabilities of solid hardwood. Navigate the realm of flooring options to discover the most durable and low-maintenance types—uncover the ultimate solution that starts with the letter 'N'. With his deep knowledge of home decor and his innate sense of style, Ron brings a wealth of expertise and a keen eye for detail to the ByRetreat team. With strategic window placement and high ceilings, the Bahay Kubo offers a sustainable and comfortable living environment that prioritizes the well-being of its occupants.

This inspired him to emulate the flexibility of bahay kubo in 1879 when he built the first lighter building. In 1884, he built the Home Insurance Building in Chicago, the first metal-framed skyscraper in the United States. Because of this, he became known as "The Father of Modern American Skyscrapers", and the Home Insurance building would become the predecessor of all the modern skyscrapers in the world. The term "nipa hut", introduced during the Philippines' American colonial era, refers to the hut version of bahay kubo. While nipa leaves were the thatching (pawid) material often used for the roofs, not all bahay kubo are huts or used nipa materials. When comparing bungalows and houses, it's essential to consider the various architectural features and design elements that set them apart.

Today’s architects draw from this well of traditional wisdom, repurposing its tenets for contemporary relevance. The cost to build a modern Bahay Kubo can vary depending on your location and the materials you choose. If you’re looking to save money on your project, we recommend using local materials and labor. The walls are often built with bamboo rods or mats to allow the house to be cool in the hot summers and warm in the rainy season.

When considering how to blend traditional Bahay Kubo design with modern homes, we must carefully select materials like wood, bamboo, and thatch to honor the heritage they represent. These elements not only echo the past but also offer a sense of rootedness in Filipino culture. A Bahay Kubo is a traditional Filipino house that is made from natural materials like bamboo and palm leaves. While the design of the Bahay Kubo has stayed largely unchanged for centuries, some modern Filipinos have been adapting the style to fit their needs and preferences.

Regular sweeping and mopping help keep these floors in top condition, while immediate cleanup of spills prevents any potential damage or stains. These choices provide a stylish and innovative solution for those seeking easy-to-clean flooring options. We've found that the type of flooring that requires the least maintenance is luxury vinyl. For those seeking a blend of aesthetics, durability, and ease of maintenance, Luxury Vinyl Tile emerges as a top choice in the world of innovative flooring solutions.

It’s a modern traditional house that is made of concrete material for flooring while walls are made of hardwood to secure the safety and security of the dwellers. The roof of the bahay kubo is traditionally made of nipa but the use of this material has several downsides. Nipa can be easily damaged by wind and rainwater so a GI sheet roofing can be opted to.

Recently, a design by Bohol-based firm Zamora Architects went viral on Facebook for its unique take on tiny house living. They gave the trend a Filipino spin, proposing a 35sqm modern bahay kubo with a clean, minimalist interior. The post has more than 57,000 shares on Facebook as of writing, and most of the almost 10,000 comments praise its innovativity.

Can Lee help me with training my dog?

Shortly after being rescued, he tested positive for parvovirus. Despite weighing barely two pounds, he fought the illness, and was nurtured back to health. The progress is slow, but promising and he needs a loving home to help him with the healing process.

As good as Lee is with dogs, he is not a professional dog trainer. We have even consulted with professional trainers and behaviorists when we have a particular issue or concern. “We considered the enormous changes in college athletics over the last several years in deciding that now is the right time to reinstate the Trophy for Reggie,” said Michael Comerford, president of the Trust.

Chasing a lifelong passion for shelter dogs, Lee embarked on a cross-country journey, fostering and finding homes for countless animals while raising awareness about the importance of adoption. Along the way, Lee learned how to harness the power of social media to deliver inspiration to people to embrace their challenges and become their best selves. For over two years, our Founder, Lee Asher, traveled across 49 states to promote dog adoption and spotlight various shelters and rescues. After his Pitbull Stella passed away, Lee was determined to fulfill his lifelong dream of creating a sanctuary, where animals could feel treasured, protected and free. In late 2020, Lee discovered a large parcel of property which was the perfect setting to turn his vision into a reality. My name is Dodger, and on behalf of Family Dogs New Life Shelter I would like to thank you for taking the time to review my fellow canines and consider us for your family.

Bush’s alleged acceptance of rent-free housing for his parents and $300,000 from two sports agents led to NCAA sanctions that ran the football program into the ground. I wrote last summer that Bush deserved to have the trophy returned because, by today’s college sports salary standards, he never did anything wrong. This was a common-sense transaction, nothing deeper, nothing more.

He also has a small open leg wound that we are treating. Each animal, though, has their own personality and idiosyncracies and Asher counsels people to spend time observing an animal before taking them home. Not rushing also permits a prospective owner to find a particular breed, if that is what they are looking for. "These dogs had done nothing wrong. They were just unwanted," Asher said. Together, we can take action, and change the world...one rescue animal at a time. We are always working on new and fun items to add to our shop.

Lee Asher's tips on adopting a shelter dog or cat

"As I get older, I wonder how come more people are not doing this; it's just this awesome gift, to be saving dogs and cats, and saving other animals." "Those 11 dogs get to go in an RV on a trip around the U.S. and Canada and then those 11 dogs inspire more people to rescue than I could ever do," he said. "This is a beautiful, beautiful story of the impact these animals have." Asher sold his belongings, bought an RV and began a two-year odyssey in which he visited animal shelters with his own pack of nearly a dozen dogs.

My adoption fee is $300 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet. My adoption fee is $550 and includes microchip & registration, spay, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet. Basically, after traveling the country to promote dog adoption and meeting with various shelters and rescues, Lee applied for his 501c3 nonprofit, which was approved in late 2020. Because of his large social media platform, the nonprofit received a lot of exposure, and for this Lee is very grateful. After his pit bull Stella passed away, he needed a break from being on the road and wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream of planting roots and founding a sanctuary.

He sold his belongings, bought an RV and began a two-year odyssey in which he visited animal shelters with his own pack of nearly a dozen dogs. The 24-month road trip was then followed by another three years of intermittent travel that, all told, took him to 49 mainland U.S. states and large swaths of Canada. It also attracted Animal Planet producers — and the six-episode reality show "My Pack Life" aired in 2022. Today, Asher lives in the Salem, Oregon, region where he runs two animal sanctuaries and is affiliated with a third that, in total, care for an estimated 200 dogs, cats, horses, llamas and other animals. "None of us is in this world forever. The question is, how much good can you do in the time you are allotted?" he said.

From its historic guest suites to its grand lobby, thoughtful design elements throughout the hotel pay homage to the rich history of Salt Lake City. The irreplaceable nature of this generational property earned it a designation from the Historic Landmark Commission, both for its cultural significance and awe-inspiring appearance. The 225-room hotel features signature restaurant, Rouser; Counterpart, patisserie; and two specialty bars, General Baggage and Little Nugget. Asher Adams, Autograph Collection offers open-air gathering areas, generous meeting and function spaces, and a state-of-the-art fitness facility.

Despite the bonds with shelter animals in his adolescence, by 2017 Asher was trying to make a go of a career in financial lending in Southern California. But the pull "to live this life with animals" grew too strong to ignore. "Most people that run a sanctuary, or a rescue, do it for similar reasons," he said. "The difference is that I live with all the animals. I spend every single day with them. Even when I am out of town I bring them along. There's nowhere that I go where it's just me." Adoption fee of $240 and includes microchip, neuter, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet. Asher began writing notes to the dogs and cats awaiting adoption or euthanasia, promising to one day provide them a home and secure future.

"I just want that dog to know I'm not going to hurt you, I'm not going to give up on you, I'm here for you no matter what," he said. "And once that dog truly understands that, that's when that beautiful bond starts to happen." Asher also advises the best way to start building trust with their dog, for example, is to be quiet at first. "People have to see that this dog they are seeing in a shelter largely came from a breeder," he said. "It's not like this dog was born in a shelter. This dog was thousands of dollars at one point." Animal rescue icon Lee Asher eyes expanding his sanctuary concept across the U.S.

Another example of open loop control systems is a vehicle driving on a road. In this case we’ll consider that the input is the engine torque, the system is the vehicle itself and the output is the vehicle speed. The driver is adjusting the engine torque (input) by pressing the accelerator pedal. Cruise control is a system in cars that automatically controls the speed of the car.

Adaptive cruise control improves upon conventional cruise systems by not only maintaining a preset speed, but also by automatically keeping a safe distance between your car and the vehicle in front of it. Using forward-pointed sensors, cameras, or both, adaptive cruise control maintains your preset speed while constantly monitoring the vehicle in front of you. However, the kicker is, it automatically slows and accelerates to maintain a predetermined following distance. More sophisticated adaptive cruise control systems can bring your car to a full stop If necessary.

How Does The Cruise Control System In Cars Work?

The inventor and mechanical engineer James Watt developed a version as early as the 17th century, which allowed steam engines to maintain a constant speed up and down inclines. Cruise control as we know it today was invented in the late 1940s, when the idea of using an electrically-controlled device that could manipulate road speeds and adjust the throttle accordingly was conceived. Adaptive cruise control is a more advanced technology that enables you to set a specific speed while the system automatically reads the traffic ahead and keeps your car at a safe following distance.

For example, Audi's Traffic Jam Assist technology can be activated in tandem with its adaptive cruise control, thereby supporting the driver in conditions that aren't optimal for the latter. By means of ultrasonic sensors, radar, and a windshield camera, the vehicle will maintain a consistent distance from the one ahead in traffic while staying oriented on the road. The driver takes full manual controlwhen the congestion clears or Traffic Jam Assist otherwise becomes unsuitable for the situation. Two companies are developing a more advanced cruise control that can automatically adjust a car's speed to maintain a safe following distance.

Speedometer Vs GPS: Whose Speed Reading Is More Accurate?

The car’s engine and transmission work together to maintain that speed without any input from the driver. Cruise control is a feature provided as standard on a wide range of vehicles; it's one of those functions that some drivers adore and others barely use. While the feature doesn't take over from the driver by any means, it can significantly ease their burden.

Therefore, cruise control is most beneficial at motorway/highway speeds when top gear is used virtually all the time. The driver can set the cruise control with the cruise switches, which usually consist of ON, OFF, RESUME, SET/ACCEL and COAST. These are commonly located on the steering wheel or on the windshield wiper or turn signal stalk. Tapping the knob in the opposite direction will decelerate the vehicle.

To use cruise control safely, it’s best to know when you should and shouldn’t use it. [9]  Using cruise control on the highway makes your driving more predictable to other drivers. Instead of constantly changing speeds, cars know how fast you’re driving and can follow safely behind you or pass.

Depending on the year, make and model, cruise control may be available for add-on or retrofit. Professional installation is recommended, and you’ll want to talk to a professional about the specific availability of parts and integration for your vehicle. Your vehicle’s engine, transmission and other components are designed to work hand-in-hand with its cruise control system and are extensively tested and integrated with one another for trouble-free performance. That’s been the case for the last decade or so, so there are loads of used cars with cruise control, as well.

For others, driving tends to be a commuter's cacophony of traffic jams, honking horns, and slow stop-start-stop-start progress. The experience can differ greatly depending on the time of day and whether it's a weekday or the weekend. The bottom line, though, is that one of these scenarios is a far better fit for cruise control than the other. A car with ACC will commonly boast small wheel-mounted units that measure its speed, along with a front-mounted one that can determine how far away other vehicles are. The former can adjust how fast your vehicle is moving relative to any motorists ahead, thereby ensuring that you always maintain your selected distance from them. Braking capacity while the system is active differs, but typically, the driver will be alerted to brake heavily if necessary (if a driver ahead does the same for instance).

Picture it like a synchronized dance on the highway, where every car knows its place and keeps the right distance. At its core, cruise control involves a series of sensors that monitor the vehicle's speed and a control unit that regulates the throttle. When the driver sets the cruise control to a specific speed, the system adjusts the throttle to maintain that speed.

When ultimately our Miami to Boston flight was cancelled, we scrambled to find a flight home rather than spend another night in Miami. Viking Air likely could have booked something for us, but as time was of the essence so we did it ourselves. When Viking learned of our difficult day, they issued us a future cruise credit. Unnecessary as it was not Viking’s fault, but we were impressed and appreciative.

Fire Devastation in Maui - Shame on VIKING CRUISES

There’s less on-board entertainment (no nightclubs or casinos on board) but each evening people congregated in the lounge by the bar and Viking had an on-board pianist. We did a fun tour of the wheelhouse and learned from the Captain that Viking ships utilize four propellers instead of a traditional rudder. Enjoying the comfort of a luxurious ship without worrying about transportation from town to town and only unpacking once. One thing I liked about sailing with Viking is how leisurely the day to day pace is. The nice thing about this stop is the ship can dock right into town, so you can join the tour or explore on your own. Many of them are situated high above local towns and we saw lots of German camper vans parked at the base.

Cruises

The main restaurants on these ships are notable for their walls of glass that can slide open to create al fresco dining, something that is unusual in the cruise world. If you're looking for a big open room on an ocean cruise (and are willing to pay for it), Viking offers you plenty of options. The line's ocean ships can be found in nearly every ocean and sea around the world, from North America to Europe and Asia. At 47,800 tons, these ocean ships are less than a fourth the size of the giant megaships being built by the likes of Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises, in keeping with Viking's focus on intimate, upscale voyages. Viking is a newcomer to cruises to Antarctica, but the destination is a big growth area for the line. Viking recently added two new, 378-passenger expedition cruise vessels specifically built to travel to the White Continent.

Multiple airline delays and flight…

Among the line's voyages, there's everything from eight-day cruises in the Mediterranean to 138-day around-the-world voyages. Last year, the line began cruising to Antarctica with its first expedition ship — a type of vessel built specifically for travel to remote, hard-to-reach places. The company also operates river trips on the Nile in Egypt and the Mekong in Southeast Asia, and it just began river trips on the Mississippi River. Viking River Cruises is the better option for all cruisers, generally.

Not only does the California-based company offer ocean cruises in almost every corner of the world, it also offers river cruises on many of the world's major rivers.

The Chef’s Table was an alternative restaurant where wine is paired with each course. The theme of the tasting menu rotates every three days, so be sure to check what options are available on the night of your choosing. But while onboard Guest Services came through with a level of hospitality we hadn’t found on other cruise lines. A big thank you to guest services for hosting an impromptu gathering of participants from Cruise Critic.

I thought that was such a nice touch given that I’m addicted to my phone. Internet service is a slower than usual, as it’s satellite service on the river and therefore inherently slower. A couple nights during the week, Viking hosted either singers, dancers or local activities.

Programming and entertainment options match the target crowd, though the production shows offered onboard in the theater are a rare weak spot that could use some revamping. On August 8th, Hurricane Dora made landfall on Maui, unleashing powerful winds reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. These formidable gusts resulted in downed power lines that sparked fires, ultimately engulfing the entire of Lahaina, Maui. Regrettably, even after a span of two weeks, power has yet to be restored. The forecast suggests a daunting additional weeks of darkness and inconvenience.

In the Mediterranean, the line's main hubs are Barcelona; Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) and Venice, Italy; Piraeus (the port for Athens), Greece; and Istanbul. Typical of the latter is the line's 14-night "Mediterranean Antiquities" routing, a one-way trip between Athens and Barcelona that stops in Greece, Turkey, Italy, Monaco, France and Spain. Fast-growing Viking has one of the most diverse arrays of itineraries of any cruise line. The average age on a Viking cruise is typically in the 70s. On my cruise, the average age was 72 out of over 600 passengers. Thank you so much again to my boyfriend’s wonderful grandparents, for giving us an incredibly memorable, generous experience.

All of the line's vessels have standard North American-style, 110-volt outlets in rooms as well as European-style, 220-volt outlets and USB ports in cabins. Viking's recently unveiled Mississippi River ship offers self-service launderettes but no send-out laundry and pressing service. Unlike many lines, Viking allows you to bring your own wine, Champagne, beer and liquor onto ships at embarkation with no limits. There's also live music at night in the Explorers' Lounge, a two-deck-high observation lounge and bar area at the very top of the ship.

Filled with comfortable seating areas and home to a bar, the Viking Living Room serves as a central meeting point for passengers throughout the day and night. It's also home to the ship's Explorers' Desk — the equivalent of a guest relations area on other ships. Viking's ocean ships have a major presence in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, which the line considers its home turf. (The company was founded by a Norwegian family.) It's also a big player in the Mediterranean. You'll find Viking's ocean ships in other key cruise destinations as well, such as Alaska, the Caribbean and Panama Canal, Canada and New England, South America, Asia and Australia.

With daily news stories of delayed and canceled flights, lost baggage, and travelers stranded overseas in the middle of a natural disaster, it's ... Purchasing the Silver Spirits beverage package for $25 per person per night affords the guest upgraded wines, beers, and unlimited cocktails and spirits. As this was our first Viking cruise, we decided to test the value of the package.

Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing. There are many different cruise lines to choose from, and each one offers a different type of experience. Some are geared towards families, while others are more focused on luxury or adventure.

CruiseDirect is the best cruise website when all you want are cruise prices. It doesn't offer hotels, flights, rental cars or other reservations you may want for your next vacation. CruiseDirect does, however, offer bonuses for travelers booking through its site. From our findings, here are the top cruise booking sites for your next vacation, plus the pros and cons they offer travelers. Like other cruise-buying websites, Costco offers rates that are in line with what you’ll find anywhere else.

Should You Use a Travel Agent to Book a Cruise?

In other words, these sites are more akin to having your own travel agent to help you with the booking process compared to only a website. These websites are similar to the large aggregator websites in that they can help you search through every cruise out there to find the best deal. So if you want to sail from Miami, you’ll see all the options from the port for every cruise line. That gives you a better chance of finding something that matches your budget and schedule versus just searching one line. CruiseDirect and One Tree Planted have partnered to plant a tree for every cruise booking that sails with us. However, these cabins can be limited, and may not be available closer to sailing.

When using a third-party site, there may be limitations and restrictions on using loyalty program benefits and rewards. Make sure to check the terms and conditions to ensure you can take advantage of your rewards. Receive 60,000 online bonus points - a $600 value - after you make at least $4,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening. We suggest you stick with the websites mentioned here or other well-known spots. The other disadvantage is that you need to be a member of Costco to book. In addition, the Costco Shop Cards are only valid at the store.

For instance, a cruise might be priced the same as another website, but will have an offer of free onboard credit as an incentive to book through them. If you are loyal to one specific cruise line, then that’s ok for you. But if you want to see all your options, it’s better to do a search on an “aggregator” website that will search all the cruise lines for that perfect vacation. Every major cruise line allows you to book online and do everything from find a cruise to make upgrades, buy extras like drink packages, and pay for the trip. In other words, you can book your spot on the ship completely online at any time of the day. Depending upon itinerary and departure port,Caribbean cruises last from a few days to a few weeks.

Make sure to understand the expiration policies of the loyalty program you’re enrolled in to ensure you can maximize your rewards and benefits. If you're searching for cruises on a third-party website, you may question the legitimacy of that site. This is especially true if the site doesn't look professional or some of the information is outdated. When looking for the best way to book a cruise, the price is virtually the same on every website. Travelers who book a cruise with Priceline receive up to $2,000 to spend at sea, plus waived deposits on their reservations.

There can be exceptions to this, as some travel agents may charge booking or administrative fees. Travel agents can take care of the booking and making payments, and even help with booking flights and pre and post cruise hotels. Of course, if you prefer to book online with an online travel agency website, that’s a convenience too. Travel agents who specialize in selling cruises, are often referred to as Cruise Specialists or Cruise Consultants. This is important, as you will want to use a travel agent who is knowledgeable and trained in selling cruises.

Meanwhile, sun worshippers find their way to 7-Mile Beach for a day of blissful laziness. If you’re new to cruising, using a travel agent to book a cruise is a good idea.

World Cruises

Payment options also vary between direct and third-party sites. Direct sites usually accept major credit cards and often offer the option to pay in installments. Third-party sites may also accept credit cards, but they may also offer additional payment options such as PayPal or alternative payment methods.

We've broken out cruise booking sites based on common booking goals. Before you book, though, have a look at these credit cards that come with cruise benefits to sweeten the pot even more. In that case, you’ll want to contact the website that you booked through — not the cruise line (unless you booked through the cruise line’s website). For example, if you book through CostcoTravel.com, then contact them first for any price drops you see.
